Boxing gloves: which ounce (oz) size?
Glove weight depends on what you use them for and on your body weight. As a rule, heavier gloves have more padding: better for sparring, safer for your partner.
| Your body weight | Bag & pad work | Sparring |
|---|---|---|
| Kids | 4–6 oz (Twins kids gloves S / M / L) | 6–8 oz |
| Under 55 kg | 10 oz | 12 oz |
| 55–70 kg | 12 oz | 14 oz |
| 70–85 kg | 14 oz | 16 oz |
| Over 85 kg | 14–16 oz | 16 oz |
Many gyms ask for 16 oz gloves for sparring. If you only want one pair, choose your sparring size.
